Higher Searles Down

Higher Searles Down2Higher Searles Down

Colliford Lake, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall.

Set in a small copse of trees, surrounded by farmland with sweeping views down to the distant sea.

Higher Searles Down lies in the softer half of Bodmin Moor close to Colliford Lake.

Peace and quiet abound and on a clear night gaze at stars you may never have seen before.

Higher Searles Down is an extremely comfortable mid 19th century farmhouse.  It is small and intimate;  an ideal place for a couple or two sets of friends to base themselves.  Being centrally placed it offers an ideal touring base for all of Cornwall.

Accommodation.

We have two bedrooms, both extremely well appointed with views across our garden to the moorland beyond.  Both rooms have 19" flat screen TV's with integrated DVD player, free Wi-fi access, tea and coffee facilities and radio alarm.

Both full English and Continental Breakfasts are available with a wide choice on the menu.  Both are accompanied by fresh fruit salad, freshly baked bread and home made preserves.  We like to think you are well set for the day after one of our breakfasts.

Evening meals are available by prior arrangement and range from simple one course suppers to three course dinners.

Dining Out

There are many local pubs serving a wide variety of dishes including The London Inn at St Neot,(~3miles),  Colliford Tavern (~2miles) and The Halfway House (~4 1/2miles).  You will find a restaurant or pub in almost every village you visit.  We will be pleased to advise you.

Leisure Activities.

Walk part of the Cornish Coastline.  It ranks amongst the most beautiful in the world.

Just ramble on the moor.  Visit the Minions or the cornish hills of Rough Tor and Brown Willy to get a real bronze age moorland feeling.

If you're a cyclist try the Camel Trail all the way from its start at the western edge of Bodmin Moor at Wendron to the end at Padstow.  Hire a bike at Bodmin or Wadebridge.  You can lock your bike in our shed should you want to!

Fish for Brown Trout on Colliford or Sibleyback Lakes.  Daily Licences available.

Horse Riding for advanced riders and beginners.

The fishing villages, the local churches and the local towns all provide fascinating days out.

The homes and gardens of Cornwall are renowned for their beauty especially in the spring.   Try Lanhydrock near Bodmin, Trerice near Newquay or Cotehele near Callington.  All are real gems.
