This business is born of a passion for Clydesdale heavy horses which are the heavy horse of Scotland and classed as a rare breed. Their numbers have dwindled over the years simply because they have lost their traditional use in agriculture and draft work as these industries have moved on and increasingly mechanised (only to be expected in a changing world of cost cutting and efficiency).
What most people don’t realise is that these magnificent beasties actually make fantastic riding horses which inspires confidence in their riders as a result of their generous but forward going nature. They are very special to work with and I spend my life now with these big friendly giants, taking people for rides out in our beautiful countryside as well as schooling them to improve their ability. Their adaptability as a breed, I believe is second to none, and their ability as a riding horse earns a living for them thereby enabling their continued existence as a breed.
Please visit our website to find out much more information about what we offer and we are happy to discuss any requirements or ideas you may suggest. We take out daily rides and have wonderful opportunities for riding on Bodmin Moor and the surrounding area.
Our aim for the start of this summer is far more ambitious and the BFG’S will be on the road for a journey from Land’s End to the Quantock Hills in Somerset, in no particular hurry and taking in lots of lovely and exciting English countryside as we go. Eight of the big boys will be doing the ride, which will start on 30th April 2012 and is called the “Olympic Clydesdale Ride”. Riders are invited to join the ride for legs of the journey or just the odd day if perferred. It promises to be a great event as the BFG’s find their way into peoples’ hearts as we go.
