Information about our group

Background: The Best of Bodmin Moor (BoBM) was formed in 2001 with the support of the then Cornwall County Council and the Caradon and North Cornwall District Councils to promote and serve the interests of businesses based on and around Bodmin Moor. Farming and tourism are two key sectors of the moorland economy and, along with most other sectors it is not surprising to realise that they do not trade in isolation.

BoBM embraces, encourages and assists all local businesses with an interest in the moor by promoting the natural, historical and cultural aspects of Bodmin Moor as a wonderful visitor destination. The aim of the group is to promote economic prosperity of the area by bringing together local communities, visitors, products and services for their mutual benefit whilst also protecting and sustaining this distinctive, unspoilt environment.

Aims: The Best of Bodmin Moor maintains links with the individuals and organisations responsible for key issues that affect the environment and living and working on Bodmin Moor. As part of this process, the focus of BoBM is to:

  • raise the profile of Bodmin Moor, regionally and nationally
  • coordinate and interpret the information and policies from government, various agencies and local authorities
  • support the sustainable economic growth of member businesses
  • protect and preserve the unique environment and heritage of Bodmin Moor

Best practices relating to tourism and the needs of visitors is a particularly important part of the group's interests, building on established knowledge of:

  • quality standards
  • legislation
  • sound business practices
  • customer care

Communications: The Best of Bodmin Moor networks with other associations and bodies through reciprocal group membership and representation on various committees thereby ensuring it has access to the latest developments and proposals for change. By this means, information flows both ways and can be disseminated amongst members electronically, by regular newsletter and personal contact.

Our bi monthly Newsletter is a particularly popular publication which contains contributions from members themselves as well as featuring news and information.
